Every team needs a playmaker. For the Minnesota Timberwolves, Ricky Rubio fills that role nicely.

He may not lead the Timberwolves in scoring, but he consistently creates opportunities for his teammates to score.

The proof is in the numbers. Rubio finished the 2013-14 season first in the league in total steals and second in steals per game. He also dominated in assists, finishing second overall in total dishes and fourth in assists per game. His vision on the floor allows him to find the open man better than almost anyone in the game. He showed this best on 19 February when he posted a franchise-record 17 assists.

Rubio's strong play continued during the off-season with a solid performance on the Spain National Team for the FIBA World Cup, where he averaged 3.6 steals per game, along with a tournament-high seven steals against a Serbia Team that made it to the gold medal game.

Rubio will return to the Timberwolves, a team that saw many off-season changes to its roster, for the 2014-15 season. The team may have lost Kevin Love, but the team's future is bright, after bringing on 2014 No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins and 2013 No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett along with Thaddeus Young and Zach LaVine.

And with Rubio's playmaking skills, he will certainly give the new, young players on the team a chance to shine.
