AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – The Detroit Pistons announced today that the team has re-signed guard Reggie Jackson to a multi-year contract. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
"We're pleased to have reached an agreement with Reggie Jackson that will keep him with the organization for multiple years," said Stan Van Gundy, Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations for the Detroit Pistons. "Reggie is a team-first type player who developed great chemistry with our core players following his midseason acquisition. We feel he has a tremendous future ahead of him and he'll be a major contributor to our team moving forward."
Jackson, 24, appeared in 77 games (40 starts) with Oklahoma City and Detroit last season averaging career highs in points (14.5 ppg), rebounds (4.2 rpg), assists (6.0 apg) and minutes (29.5 mpg). He posted 17.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 9.2 assists and 32.2 minutes in 27 games with Detroit, including an 11-game stretch from March 17 through April 4 where he averaged 20.6 points (.494 FG, .417 3FG), 10.8 assists and 5.7 rebounds while leading the club to a 7-4 record. Among NBA league leaders, the 6-foot-3, 208-pound guard ranked 18th in assists per game (6.0) and T37th in free-throw percentage (.830).
The former Boston College product became the first Pistons player since Grant Hill in 1997-98 to record multiple triple-doubles in a season, recording his first career triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists at Philadelphia (3/18). Jackson picked up his second career triple-double at Orlando (3/27) with 26 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. He also recorded his first 20/20 game, recording 23 points and career-high 20 assists vs. Memphis (3/17) while becoming the first player since Mark Jackson in 1997 to record a 20/20 game and a triple-double in back-to-back games. Jackson became the fifth player in franchise history to record 20-plus assists (Kevin Porter, Isiah Thomas, Will Bynum, Brandon Jennings) and teamed with Jennings to become the first teammate duo in NBA history to record multiple 20-plus point and 20-plus assist performances in the same season.
Drafted by the Thunder with the 24th overall selection in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft, Jackson averaged 13.1 points, 4.1 assists and 3.9 rebounds off the bench during the 2013-14 season. Prior to being inserted into the starting line-up at Charlotte (12/27/13), Jackson was the only player in the NBA to come off the bench and average 12-plus points, three-plus rebounds and three-plus assists. In 30 career playoff games with Oklahoma City, Jackson has averages of 12.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 30.0 minutes per game.
